CHARACTER
Character Name: Celebrían
Canon:Elves and shit Tolkien’s Legendarium
Age: A couple thousand, appears in like… her 20’s
Timeline: When Elrond and Galadriel's ship is approaching Aman.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A
Personality:
A lot can be gleaned simply by the fact that she is the Lady of Imladris and the wife of Elrond, an elf who is described as "warm as a summer day," and the daughter of two of the wisest, most experienced and oldest elves in all of Middle Earth. Celebrían is, without a doubt, a kind woman who is more than capable of leading her people when necessary.
Now, with everything in her history in mind, it gives us an insight to how Celebrían behaves despite how little Tolkien ever told us of her. As daughter to Galadriel and Celeborn, her looks definitely aren’t the only thing she has going for her (Elves really are very beautiful). Her parents are wise and intelligent, a trait that would undoubtedly be passed on to Celebrían and with thousands of years of life to her, she would have an inordinate amount of time to study anything she wasn’t taught by her parents and in her travels.
Traveling as much as she did in her youth would obviously have taught her quite a bit about different elvish cultures and Dwarven culture, considering the elves of Eregion traded often with the Dwarves of Moria. Though her father disliked them, her mother seemed to have some fondness for their kind and had studied under their maker, Aulë. She learned much of them while there. It shows how open-minded Celebrían is towards other races and people.
In her youth though, Celebrían was very much like her mother and often ran around, exploring and trying to create her own adventures. There was more than one occasion where Celeborn and Galadriel had to scold her for ruining her dresses.
She is strong-willed, intelligent and independent, like her mother, though she lacks the wisdom of years that her parents have. She won’t allow others to control her actions or tell her what she might or might not be allowed to do. However, she will not turn away help and protection when it’s offered because she’s intelligent enough to know when she needs it. Combat-wise, she’s not the most skilled with a blade or a bow as many of her people are and did not involve herself in the conflict against Sauron. Instead, she remained where it was safest to help treat the injured rather than cause her family any.
However, her parents are both experienced warriors, her mother having been involved in the First Kinslaying and both of her parents having been there during the fall of Doriath. Both would know that peace isn't likely to last forever and so would have prepared their daughter for that likelihood and had her trained with a blade when she was old enough. Even so, her interests and skills lie best in Healing and so she hasn't taken up a weapon since she was young(er).
Despite her heritages, Celebrían lacks the haughty or proud disposition one might expect and her parents are the ones to thank for that. They instilled in her the mind to be proud of herself and her accomplishments but for her heritage she is not responsible, though she is no less proud to come from the lines that she has. And she is proud of her family regardless.
Despite this, she is not the type to flaunt her skills or to make a spectacle of herself. That others enjoy her singing or dancing when she does so for others to see brings her joy but, more importantly, it makes other people happy and she isn't prideful for it.
Her love for her family is strong. So strong that even when she decided to leave Middle Earth after being tormented by Orcs, it caused her great pain to leave them but the pain of remaining there, in a place which barely held any light or beauty to her, was far greater. Beyond that though, she is fiercely protective of her loved ones and can't be expected to (easily) hold her tongue if anyone were to speak out against them.
As with all elves, she loves all nature; the water, sea and stars especially. She is insatiably curious, as is typical of their race as well as possessing a desire to learn and create. The Noldor especially (of which Celebrían is descended) preoccupy themselves with various things, such as smithwork, sculpture, music, and other arts.
Celebrían herself has a love of all things beautiful, nature especially (as is normally found among elves) and is an especially talented singer, is skilled in playing the flute, as well as dancing and painting. She can also frequently be found hiking (where hiking can be done), exploring the woods, something she did often with Elrond before they were courting or riding horses. And like her husband, she is skilled in the art of healing though not quite to the extent of Elrond. Elves also believe that taking life interferes with the ability to preserve life.
History:
Celebrían was born during the Second Age Galadriel and Celeborn. Her parents, for awhile, ruled over Harlindon before leaving for Eregion, the "land of Holly" or called "Hollin" by Men, in S.A. 750, six-hundred years before Celebrían's earliest mention. There they lived in peace, on the western side of the Misty Mountains, and for awhile acted as their Lord and Lady.
In Eregion, Celebrían was begat, born and raised among the primarily Noldorin population. The three of them resided in Ost-in-Edhil, the capital city of of Eregion, which Celeborn and Galadriel founded while they ruled. Among these peoples, she learned a great deal and their had a successful and profitable trade system with the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm, also known as Moria, as well as the Men of Númenor. Her mother, one of the Noldor, a people who beloved of Aulë (the creator of the Dwarves), had studied under him for a time. Their knowledge and skill in various crafts became great, making them an excellent trading partner to the Dwarves, sharing similar levels of skill.
Her father, one of the Sindar and kin to King Thingol of Doriath, however had no love of the Dwarves who had killed his king years before and could not forgive them. But as lord of Eregion whose people traded with the Dwarves, his opinion and dislike of them could not affect their relationship.
In time, Galadriel wished to travel beyond the Misty Mountains to Lórinand, known also as Lothlórien, but Celeborn would not travel with her through Khazad-dûm, a honor the Dwarves rarely granted others. And so Galadriel traveled east through the Dwarves mountain halls with her daughter and together they came to Lórinand and lived. Celeborn remained in Eregion.
(It's actually not entirely clear whether Galadriel, Celeborn and Celebrían were present in Eregion when Annatar came. Tolkien changed his mind a lot. Some sources record her as leaving before, some during and others state that she took Celebrían to Lórinand when Annatar tried to encourage a revolt against Galadriel and Celeborn.)
Celebrimbor, grandson of Fëanor and renowned as one of the greatest craftsman that Middle Earth has known, became the lord of Eregion. For many years there was peace in Eregion and the rest of Middle Earth. Around S.A. 1200 though, a man calling himself 'Annatar' came to Eregion and offered to teach the people there. Annatar, in reality, was Sauron who served Morgoth. It was his hope that he could use this to his advantage and bring the Elves under his service. He would not (could not really) go to Lindon for Elrond and Gil-Galad doubted him and so he could not fool them.
He told them that Elrond and Gil-Galad would not aid him, that it seemed they did not wish other lands to become so blissful as their own. That the elves could make Middle Earth as fair as Valinor and that he could teach them the skills to do so. And so he was welcomed among the people of Eregion and he taught them. And their skills grew, as they had wished. For ever the Noldor sought to increase their knowledge and skill.
And so the Rings of Power were crafted under Annatar's guidance, 'gifted' to Men and Dwarves later, before he crafted the Ruling Ring in the fires of Orodruin (Mount Doom) while Celebrimbor crafted the Elven Rings. These three rings were not caught under his power though. The moment Sauron placed his ring on his finger, the Elves knew of his treachery and Celebrimbor took care to hide the three Elven Rings. He fled to Lórinand and sought counsel with Galadriel and while they should have destroyed the rings then, they "failed to find the strength" to do so. As such, they were entrusted to the care of others at Galadriel's advice.
Nenya was given to Galadriel while Narya and Vilya, he entrusted to Gil-Galad. From him, Círdan was given Narya who would pass the ring to Gandalf. And Vilya was kept by Gil-Galad, later passing it to Elrond.
In anger, Sauron demanded the rings be turned over to him because they could not have been made without his tutelage. When he was refused and the elves fled from him, Sauron declared war against them and it did not cease. Eregion was attacked and, despite the assistance of their allies in Moria, the people of Eregion were scattered, some to Lindon, some to Lórinand and some to Imladris, founded as a refuge by Elrond. Among those who went to Imladris (Rivendell) was Celeborn.
Sauron then gathered all the Rings already made and and dealt them among the peoples of Middle Earth. Nine Rings went to the race of Men and Seven to the Dwarves. Men came under his influence but he found Dwarves to be difficult to bring under his power. And he sought then to bring all of Middle earth under his reign, taking under his service all those things that had served Morgoth. Yet he did not attack Lindon or Gil-Galad, instead spreading his influence of the east and the south, ravaging and conquering lands. And when he had the power to attempt to take Lindon, to try to claim the Three Rings, his strength was lessened for he needed to leave behind a detachment to deal with those who fought for Elrond and would have attacked his rear.
Gil-Galad though, in fear of Sauron and open war coming to Eriador, sought the help of the Númenóreans who prepared to go to aid them when called. And when Sauron came, Gil-Galad sent for them but they did not arrive until five years later (damn). By then, Sauron had conquered all of Eriador but for Imladris, which was under siege. When they arrived though, and with their aid, they were able to drive Sauron south-east. His forces were defeated for a time and Sauron managed to flee with no more than a body guard. Those attacking Imladris were caught between Elrond's and Gil-Galad's forces and destroyed. Thus ended the 'War of the Elves and Sauron.'
Galadriel, whose sea-longing grew strong, took her daughter over the mountains back to the West to live nearer the Sea. They sought out Celeborn and, in Rivendell, the three were reunited.
". . . and it was then that Elrond first saw Celebrían, and loved her, though he said nothing of it."
It was around this time that a council was held and it was decided that the eastern stronghold of the elves would be maintained in Imladris rather than Eregion and Gil-Galad passed Vilya to Elrond, naming him his vice-regent. For awhile after, Galadriel, Celeborn and Celebrían lived in Imladris, peacefully. During that time, Celebrían would have come to know Elrond. Though nothing of love would be said between them for many years still. (So shy, Elrond.)
After an unspecified number of years living in Imladris, Celeborn and Galadriel took Celebrían and they left for lands that were barely inhabited between Gwathló and Ethir Anduin, dwelling then in Belfalas, a region south of Gondor. South of that was the Bay of Belfalas, named for the region. Belfalas would later be called Dol Amroth, for Amroth who, for a time, ruled Lórinand as its king. There were at least two occasions that they visited Lórinand prior to the Last Alliance.
During the War of the Last Alliance, it can be assumed that travel was not frequent and, though it's not outright stated that Celebrían remained with her parents, it is likely that she did, being their only child and having remained with them throughout the years otherwise. And so she would have remained safe but still knowledgeable about events that came to pass. This would mean she would know, as her parents did (because what doesn't Galadriel know), that Elrond marched with Gil-Galad as his herald. And she worried for him because, by then, love was born between them despite no mention of it.
Following Sauron's defeat, Middle Earth entered the Third Age, came to know a time of peace, and Elrond returned to Imladris. It is likely that having survived the war when so many didn't, including Gil-Galad and Elendil, he came to realize there was no reason to hide his love for Celebrían, which he had done for nearly two thousand years. By the year 109 of the Third Age, he and Celebrían were courting, betrothed and married. Her mother gave her the gift of the Elessar, the Elfstone, around the time she was married as well. Which would later be passed to Arwen, returned to Galadriel and given to Aragorn.
Twenty-one years later, the Lord and Lady of Imladris would happily bring into the world Elladan and Elrohir, twin sons. One-hundred and eleven years following that, the two would have a daughter as well, Arwen of who it was said that the likeness of Lúthien had returned in. And who would, many years later, make the choice of Lúthien in wedding Aragorn and living as a mortal.
And when Amroth was lost in the Third Age and Lórinand was in danger, Galadriel and Celeborn returned there and became the rulers of the realm though they never claimed to be a king or queen, calling themselves guardians of the realm.
Throughout the Third Age, Celebrían would frequently leave Imladris to visit her parents in Lothlórien. At times, her children would join her (when old enough to travel) in these visits, the length of which would likely fluctuate. Probably according to how much she'd missed Galadriel and Celeborn. It was during one of these visits, in T.A. 2509, that Celebrían and her party were waylaid by orcs in the Redhorn Pass. Her escort was scattered by the attack while she was seized and carried off.
The accounts of this attack are not clear, only Celebrían being mentioned as having been rescued and likely the only to survive. During the time she was kept prisoner, she was tortured, beaten and at some point stabbed with a poisoned blade. Her sons (and, in some accounts, Elrond as well) rescued her and returned her to Imladris where she was healed completely in body though from that day, she lived in constant fear and torment, losing all love of Middle Earth and slowly faded, likely to die.
The year following her rescue, Celebrían would leave Middle Earth, forever, sailing over the Sea to her mothers homeland where she would find peace at last. And there she would dwell with those who had sailed before her, those that would come and her family that dwelt there. Five hundred years would pass before she would be reunited with her husband, father and mother, whose ban had been lifted, but was forever sundered from her daughter who chose a mortal life.
It is unknown whether or not Elladan and Elrohir ever sailed themselves or if they too chose to live as mortals. It is known however that following her attack, the twins frequently left Imladris to hunt and kill orcs with the Rangers of the North with their mothers attack always on their mind.
Abilities:
As an elf, she is immortal and will live to the end of the world unless fatally wounded or suffer such a sorrow that their hearts more or less break. They're un-aging, ceasing to age between the ages of 50-100 years, and are also bound to Arda, literally, their souls remain in Arda after they die, in the Halls of Mandos. (So this will be an adventure.) Other characteristics inherent to her race is that she's ambidextrous and resistant to most weather except for extreme heat or cold, elves heal quickly and tend to be stronger, have keener eyesight and hearing, able to see several leagues away with relative clarity.
They have a deep connection to the world, to nature around them, can understand trees, plants and even the stones. Elves even taught Ents how to speak. Celebrían enjoys nature herself and has a talent with growing things.
Elves are light-footed, capable of walking over snow without leaving footprints or sinking into it and can walk through it and travel in just light boots. Aside from Hobbits, they are the only race that can move silently or nearly silently. There's also the detail that Elves don't technically need to sleep either, they “rested their minds with beautiful thoughts in reverie or looking at fair things.”
Immune to disease and illness, it's incredibly unlike you'll ever see any of them, Celebrían included, feeling or looking sick unless they're poisoned or possibly very, very drunk. Which brings up the fact that Elves do not get drunk very easily. Especially if those elves are used to much stronger wines.
And let's not forget that pesky little telepathy trick that elves have. Being the daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel, there's absolutely no doubt that Celebrían possesses this skill as well. It makes private discussions among other elves much easier. Otherwise, in regards to the minds, Elves also have a very long and clear memory, capable of remembering things from when they were very young.
They are far more resistant to corruption than the race of Men, unless fooled by some fair form (SAURON), and detest evil. So it's notable that their works tend to cause harm to those that are evil and that elves (Celebrían included) seem to have a 'perception' of the people around her, their hearts and intentions though nothing to the extent her mother possesses.
Among the elves, there is some with great skill in Healing. Typically, those that do not fight or kill (or haven't done so in a long time) are counted among the greatest of Healers. Two of the best known Healers are Galadriel and Elrond. Learning from them, Celebrían can be counted as skilled as well since she has never killed before.

First Person: (Just a note, both samples are from another game)
[It starts with a video. And that video shows a young silver-haired woman. She’s dressed very well with ribbons woven through her hair. Clearly she was getting ready for some special occasion before being drawn by the fairies. That’s not going to stop her from getting answers though.
She straightens up, looking confident and (hopefully) in control.]
I am Celebrían of Lothlórien. I have no skill in warfare but I am here, now, and I will do what I can to help.
Like many of my people, I have some skill in Healing. [Being taught by two of the greatest Healers in Middle Earth, it’s probably more than “some skill.” But modesty.]
And I will, of course, be using that skill to help any who are hurt here. Though I hope it will be rare. You will need only contact me if you have need of help.
Third Person:
The Great Greenwood. That was what they had told her the name of the forest was. Ironic. She’d lived for years near Greenwood, though had never visited. It had never been anything she’d considered but, now, she wondered if it was anything like this place. It was beautiful, the fresh scent of newly bloomed plants and fallen leaves and she moved lightly through the trees, light boots barely making a sound. It was good for her, to do so. Nobody would hear her if there were any in these woods that would mean her harm. And it meant that she was making little, if any, noise that would drown out the sound of someone approaching.
There one who had told her how to traverse the Great Greenwood to possibly find the Hidden Falls but, for now, she wandered simply to enjoy being among trees. Another day could be set aside to try to see the falls, to see if she could hear the music of this world in its waters.
So among the trees, Celebrían let herself relax, opened her mind and listened, smiling at the affection of the trees, loving at how alive and aware the trees were. At least this felt a bit like home, at least the trees were kind. And there were plants here that could help with Healing, that could ease pain, cure infection or speed healing. It would take some study because the plants here, the people here, were not like those found on Arda.
And it was very tempting to doff her boots among these foreign trees and plants, to let herself go like she would back home. That was the problem though, everything was foreign to her. It didn’t stop her though as she started to sing, very softly, and dance between saplings. A little bit of cheer couldn’t hurt, right?
Her thoughts derailed though, when the sound of heavy footfalls reached her ears.
The trees would, hopefully, not mind her as she climbed one of the nearest of them. She pulled herself quickly up several branches, green travel clothes helping her to blend as she moved among the leaves before she settled. As peaceful as the Greenwood was, Celebrían was alone and inexperienced in combat. It was better to be safe than sorry.
At least she had a knife with her but, after this, she wouldn’t be surprised if her mother insisted on a sword being at her hip from then on. The elf-maid didn’t want to fight, it could and likely would hinder her skills as a Healer. She wasn’t too far from Caer Glaem though. If something was wrong (and she hoped it wasn’t, being so close to the Seelie court) she could call for help.
She watched, silently, from her perch in the tree, sighing in relief when she saw that it was a young dwarf. One she had seen when the Seelie had celebrated their arrival. Well, perhaps not ‘young’ among his own kind but to the elves, he was quite young.
After a moment, calming her heart and slowing her breathing, she dropped down from the tree.
“Gi suilon, Master Dwarf. I thought myself alone in exploring these woods today.”
